Learn the safe and effective use of EMDR

EMDR is a brilliant therapy that will change how you practice. That being said, any therapy with the potential to rapidly process traumatic memory can also be harmful. Particularly in cases where there is Complex PTSD, OSDD, or DID, therapists are often shocked and horrified to see that their clients actually get worse rather than better with the EMDR standard protocol.

Faced with this situation, many therapists doggedly persist in their use of the standard protocol, and their clients continue to worsen or drop out of therapy entirely. Other therapists abandon EMDR altogether, and therapist and clients alike miss out on a life-changing therapy.

So what can you do? At Transformation, we help therapists navigate a third way, which is to learn the art of applying EMDR in complex cases. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing, and we work with consulting therapists to learn the nuances of how to safely and effectively use this therapy with their most challenging clients. In particular, we spend a lot of time helping clinicians learn how to

  • hone their conceptualization skills

  • widen their clients’ window of affect tolerance

  • effectively work with “parts” of the personality and their defences

  • treat Complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders

  • Safely resolve trauma without doing harm
