CBT in Kitchener-Waterloo

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is the most researched and empirically-validated therapy that exists. It has been proven to be effective at helping people cope with a variety of psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and relationship issues.

Our Cognitive Behaviour Therapists have received extensive post-graduate training in CBT from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, the Canadian Traumatology Institute, and Wilfrid Laurier University.

How CBT Works

CBT is a highly structured form of therapy that uses “cognitive strategies” to help you identify and manage thoughts that get in the way of you living the life you want to live. It also uses "behavioural strategies" to help improve your mood, expand your comfort zone, and build skills in a wide variety of situations, from dating and job performance to emotion regulation.

While CBT is extremely effective in certain ways, it also has some limitations. For instance, it can be limited in its effectiveness with personality disorders or other forms of complex trauma. Just like being a carpenter usually involves using more than just a hammer, so does being a therapist usually involve using more than just CBT.
