OCD Therapy in Kitchener-Waterloo

OCD sucks. It's terrifying to experience such intense thoughts and urges and confusing trying to figure out how to make them stop. OCD can also be isolating because the thoughts and urges often feel embarrassing to talk about. OCD can be shame-inducing, distressing, distracting, time-consuming, and it can sometimes even get in the way of day-to-day functioning.

OCD has two components: obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are distressing and repetitive thoughts and urges that cause feelings of anxiety. Compulsions are the behaviours or rituals you engage in to reduce that anxiety. Compulsions work really well to reduce anxiety short-term, but over the long term, they just keep OCD going.

OCD has many subtypes. Your obsessions and compulsions can revolve around anything: fears about harming yourself or others, repeatedly analyzing a conversation you had 5 years ago, a general sense that things just "aren't right,” or concerns about violating a religious or moral belief you hold. The actual content of your obsessions isn't actually all that important - what matters is how you respond when they pop up.
