Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is the most researched and empirically-validated therapy that exists. It has been proven to be effective at helping people cope with a variety of psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and relationship issues.
CBT is particularly useful for helping people to cope with difficult thoughts and emotions in the first phase of therapy (safety and stabilization). Empirical research and clinical experience is ambivalent about whether or not CBT is effective for addressing underlying issues, so John tends to use EMDR for the second phase of therapy (the processing phase).
