Upon arriving, you can walk right in through the front door and follow the signs to the waiting room. Once it's time for your appointment, John will come downstairs to greet you and lead you to his office on the second floor.

At the beginning of the session, you and John will go over some boring paperwork about informed consent, confidentiality, and cancellation policy. Then you'll go over some more interesting paperwork about your history, goals for counselling, and supports. This paperwork gives John some important background information about you.

Then the paperwork is finished! You and John will then begin to collaborate about the most effective way to work together to meet your goals and start to work toward them. You'll also have the opportunity to ask John any questions you may have about counselling, his approach or training, or him as a person.

And that's pretty much it for the first counselling session. For information on the overall process of counselling, check out our page on what happens in counselling.
