Carling’s Bio:

Carling is a Registered Psychotherapist who has studied mental health and relationships over the past nine years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies and a Masters of Science in Couple & Family Therapy.

With over four years of clinical experience, Carling has supported clients from many walks of life in achieving their goals. She draws from a range of effective therapy models including: Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family-Systems Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Gottman Method Relationship Therapy. As Transformation Counselling's resident Sex Therapist, she also completed the University of Guelph's Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program.

As an experienced client herself, Carling understands the vulnerability and courage it takes to make the decision to begin therapy. She whole-heartedly believes that we are all capable of making the changes we want to see in our lives and is renowned for motivating her clients when they feel off-track or discouraged. Although the therapeutic process often involves “growing pains," Carling makes room for humour, enjoyment, and fun along the way.

Carling works with individuals, couples, and families through various concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief & loss, infidelity, trauma, addiction, communication breakdowns, life transitions, shame & guilt, gender exploration & identity, illness, academic-related stress, and personal growth. She is also experienced working with LGBTQ+ clients, as well as with non-monogamous, open and polyamorous relationships.

Carling is a therapist who is kind and approachable with a natural ability to see the strength in her clients. She is not afraid to be herself and believes that therapy is most effective when everyone involved is as authentic as possible. Carling lived in Kitchener-Waterloo for five years while completing her undergraduate degree and she's excited to be back serving such a vibrant community!
